SASA LEATHER

Product Development Motivation

Covering 90% of Hallasan Mountain, Jeju sasa plant has become a significant environmental issue due to its harm to biodiversity. As cutting down the sasa plants cannot be widely utilized and poses a waste disposal problem, we decided to develop vegan leather to address this issue.

 66% Bio-Carbon Leather

While existing vegan leather uses PVC or PU, which contain harmful chemicals, Una de Monaco developed eco-friendly leather by utilizing sasa plant powder and bioplastics, minimizing the use of harmful substances. This includes ethical manufacturing processes that achieve carbon neutrality.

With a bio-carbon content of 66%, it is suitable for handbags and accessories. The levels of harmful substances such as DMF and VOC are significantly lower compared to synthetic leather, making it eligible for environmental certifications. High quality has been proven through various tests, including water resistance and abrasion resistance. It can be molded to mimic the natural textures of snake, crocodile, and cow leather.

We have completed a patent application for the production method in Korea and plan to file for international patent rights within 2024.

'24 FW Collection is created with SASA leather.
